Building by Doing Your Work

Kris Wilder

Building by Doing Your Work. Recently I donated a car to a company to get a tax credit and to easily get rid of my car it seemed like a good idea. The events lead me to need to contact them to make sure that they had received the car. The response was, “Do you have a code?” I replied, “Absolutely, I have a code on my receipt right here.” “It’s not one of our numbers sorry can’t help you.” “Well I’ve got an email here it’s got your letterhead on it, in fact, it even has your name attached to it.” The voice came back over the phone, “No, not ours, we don’t have it on the lot.” “But it looks like this,” “No, no we don’t have anything like that at all.”

Building by Doing Your Work For You

“Who towed it?” she asked. I gave her the name of the towing company, the date, the time, and the address.” Her response was, “I don’t know.” Then came the greatest explanation ever, she added, “I guess it must have been stolen.” I replied, “Yeah, that’s what people are doing. They are going out spending $108,000 to buy a tow truck so they can get involved in the lucrative black market of used automobiles.” I was now doing her work for her.

This exchange was an example of not doing your work utterly unhelpful. Look, just take a moment and be thoughtful. Ask the question how can this be solved? Here is a phenomenal skill. In a comedy skit somebody comes in and says, “Boy is it cold out there.” you don’t go, “No it’s not cold.” The answer is, “Yes and I’ve never seen it so cold in my life.” You see the word, “No” can be a conversation ender. The phrase, “I don’t know.” Can often mean you are not smart enough to be in the conversation.

Lessons In Doing Your Own Work

I called the national office in they created a three-way call. And the car was on the lot, sure enough. It’s difficult but he doesn’t have to be any more difficult. Choose to do your own work go the extra mile, you are better for it.

You learn things and you get more skills. Yes, it requires some effort and some thought, but the reward is a better and more engaged life. You are learning while you’re working and you are building while doing your own work.

The Robert’s Rule of News

Kris Wilder

The Robert’s Rule of News is about the speed of news. Recently the actress Tanya Roberts died and she died twice. That is a case of fast reporting, and being the 1st to have the hot take in play here.

The story is the actress Tanya Roberts died. Then it came out that she wasn’t dead and then it came out that she died a few days later.

Needing to be 1st is buried deep in the human race. If you’re 1st with the information you can save the tribe from attackers. You can save the tribe from poison, from the dangers of a regime change. All these things are important, like the king is dead, that changes everything. Whoever gets that information 1st has the upper hand. This is a defense mechanism and it works.

Tanya Roberts was an actress who was a Bond girl and, in that role, she had the role of sex appeal, coolness. She was also on Charlie’s Angels and that 70’s show and she died 2 times. Her death was announced, and retracted. Later she reported again as dead. Who reported her death? A publicist, a family member? I don’t know but the press took it and didn’t double check it. Why would you check on an obituary or announcement somebody’s passing? But they ran with it. We are not concerned about the mechanics of the error, that’s not too important for us. it’s about the reaction.

Here is the Tanya Roberts Rule or The Robert’s Rule.

If you hear news that doesn’t directly affect you, it doesn’t threaten you, give it 24 hours, let it breathe. Let it be what it is without comment and see upon reviewing the story. Is the reporting of story still in fact what was reported 24 hours ago. Feel free to apply the Robert’s Rule of News and see the results in what impacts you and what doesn’t.

And to Tanya Roberts thanks for the years of entertainment. And thank you for the Robert’s rule of 24 hours of letting it cool. Unless of course the news threatens my family or friends.

Your Energy is Key Now

Kris Wilder

Your energy is key now “In these times.” That’s what the radio announcers and broadcasters like to say. “In these uncertain times,” or “These unprecedented times.” Yeah, yeah, yeah, heard a million times.

Your Energy is Key Now, Right Now, More Than Ever

The question is, “What do I do?” “What do we do in these times in this situation?” “Where do I go what’s supposed to happen?” Well, that is a lot of questions and I don’t have any specific answers for you. Except for one very important statement. Energy is key.

Energy between two people

You see those questions I ask about a moment ago they lack energy. They are like a rudderless ship casting about with neither a compass nor a sail. The energy that goes into the smallest efforts that you undertake at these times. That’s the place you see energy, positive energy, is one of the most important elements you can have in your life.

The Kids in The Hall Made Fun of it Years Ago

Ask anybody you want to be around the positive person or you want to be around the dour and sour person. People want to talk about the negative it’s a natural defense mechanism. It’s something that is kind of built into us, but it’s also made fun of.

The Kids in The Hall

If I could reach back years and years ago there was a great TV show called, The Kids in the Hall. You may be familiar with it. It was a comedy troupe out of Canada. One of the skits they would do was an office skit. The guys would dress in drag and pretend to be office administrators. Invariably the episodes began with, “Oh it’s a Monday, Oh I know Monday’s.” That’s bad energy. But we know that and yet we still can make fun of it because, well it continues.

Look here’s the deal, fake it. Shower on time, shave, put on your good clothes, clean whatever you need to clean. Put as much order into your life as you can. Keep the positive energy. Because even though you may be faking it makes a profound and final difference in how you live your life.

A Simple Action That Sets Your Sails

Stop waiting for things to get better. Simply do this, fake it. The positive energy. You’ll soon begin to believe it and so will your body. You’re going to find yourself in an extraordinary position of seeing the world as potential and not a negative stasis. A world we have to exist in that stasis and wait for somebody to put a compass or rudder and sail on our own personal ship.

Sailboat, sailing away

An extra hit. I think this is one of the funniest, odd, weird Kids in the Hall skit called, “Drunk Father Birthday Advice.

Custom Built Minds and Bodies

Kris Wilder

Custom built minds and bodies. Our bodies and minds are plastic or malleable. The body can be adjusted and is adjusting to lift massive weights through repetition practice and diet. Eddie Hall the English strong man was a swimmer in his youth and then he changed his direction. The serial killer Ted Bundy lost weight until he was ready for his goal of a jailbreak using his now slight frame escaped from incarceration.

The World Will Change You

The world will change you. These two examples are showing an active choice of mind and the resulting body. The world will change you. Often you don’t have a choice but you do have a vote. You can customize your body and mind to the world you have chosen.

I said it before on other platforms but you have the Library of Alexandria at your fingertips with the worldwide Web. To an extent, there are few excuses for not seeking necessary change in one’s life, of course, if you choose to change.

School should be a facility for sharping the mental process. To allow for methodologies of thought. School should give you the gift of building your mind in a custom fashion through well-known and tried principles.

The Casual Response

In pointing to the gymnasium or the health club, that same is true, they are custom built. The body and mind are custom built. Are you custom building with a diet of opinions and agendas? Do you simply respond yeah, “OK I guess that’s right.” in a cavalier fashion?

You see you can choose more often than not the place you live and the way you think about it. The mind and body are plastic. Make your choices. Make your choices good.

Rent Free In Your Head

There is a saying that goes, “Letting somebody live rent-free in your head.” That saying means a person has long since left the situation, but you continue to go over what happened. The saying is attributed to Ann Landers who wrote in an advice column for 56 years.

They Are Gone

The idea is that the person who has left the scene, their acts, their behaviors are ruminated by you. You go over them and it agitates you. The thoughts in the recurring visitations. The issue is that the person who is living rent-free in your head has long since moved on. The person may well not recall or at least place no value on what happened.

You are spending your precious life energy ruminating about something that is likely meaningless. Something that has long since meant nothing. There is a reason that person you are allowing to live rent-free in your head. And there’s a reason they did not make it into your future. They chose not to go with you into your future, or you decided to move forward without them.

Except They Made It Into Your Head

If you or they have chosen to move into the future, well go ahead and purge them. Purge the thoughts, don’t drag them against their will into your future. And against your better judgment.

If you can understand the reason you let them live in your head rent-free your way ahead. Maybe you feel offended. There was some transgression, they drank straight from the milk carton. It’s all your choice to explore the reason. And to let that person go.

They Likely Don’t Care, Nor Should You

To not let them continue to live in your world, in your mind. Because they don’t care and you probably shouldn’t either. If you can find that reason that’s the key. Take a moment to sit. Spend the time to understand the reason why and how they made it into your mental future and not your physical future.

And let that mental future go because nobody gets to live rent-free in your head.

Circumstances and Fate in an Active Light

Kris Wilder

Circumstances and Fate in An Active Light. “If only this would be like that,” “If the situation would just break this way.” “What we need to have is the stars align yeah that will make everything right.” Well, there’s the crux of the situation.

There’s the crux of the circumstances and fate. Standing around and asking for things to change, be this way or maybe if we just change this way. That’s like asking the stars to align. The chances of the star shifting in the sky to meet your needs is just unlikely. In fact, it’s not going to happen.

Coaching Into The Circumstances

There was an old football coach by the name of Chuck Knox. Knox was a pro football coach who grew up in Pennsylvania. Describing Knox as a straight forward person is correct. One time as he laid out the plans for the next game, the press started asking about the injuries on the team. How the injuries were going to impact the upcoming game and he said this. “You have to play the cards you’re dealt.”

That is an understanding of reality. This is what is happening and realizing the situation that is presenting. The circumstances and the fate over many injuries on your sports team in this case.

You do have to adjust you have to address and you have to move towards the goal. Even if crushing of your business . Crushed by circumstances beyond your grasp, adjust the best you can and move forward.

Seeing The Real World

The key is to see yourself in the situation for what it is and then take action. It is useless standing around wringing your hands. Fretting about the circumstances and fate.

Well, guess what? Circumstances and fate are non-negotiable. These are elements of life and they must be dealt with for what they are. They are unwelcome as they define the terms of your situation. Yes, they are unwelcome and they are defining. Now just like coach Knox said, “You have to play the cards you are dealt.” Yeah, circumstances and fate in an active light.
